Whaleback Golf Course New Safety Netting

New changes are coming to Whaleback Golf Course in Parkwood, WA! Known as one of Perth’s most popular golf destinations, Whaleback is preparing for a $1.85 million upgrade to its driving range in early 2025. This project will see the installation of advanced safety netting designed to enhance safety and efficiency for both players and staff.

What’s Happening at Whaleback?

The City of Canning has approved a tender from Country Club International (CCI Safety Netting)to install the new safety netting. The cost of the project will be covered by revenue generated from Whaleback’s golf operations, showing the course’s self-sufficient and community-focused approach.

At over 36 metres tall in some areas, the netting will be among the highest in Perth, providing much-needed protection on the 9th and 14th holes. This upgrade will reduce the risk of golf balls leaving the range to less than 1% of total shots hit, even during busy times.

According to Canning Mayor Patrick Hall, the new netting is a significant step forward:
“The eagerly anticipated construction of the driving range netting at Whaleback Golf Course will significantly improve patron safety on the 9th and 14th holes and provide operational efficiencies.”

A Modern Facility with a Rich History

Whaleback Golf Course has always been a trailblaser. Since 2019, its two-storey driving range has featured Top Tracer technology, allowing players to track their ball speed, accuracy, and distance with precision. This creative addition has drawn approximately 100,000 visitors each year, making Whaleback a favourite spot for golfers across Perth.

With over 8.5 million golf balls hit annually and an incredible 40,000 balls struck in a single day on peak days, the need for safety and operational upgrades has never been clearer. By prioritising these improvements, Whaleback is ensuring that golfers can enjoy the game in a safe and secure environment.

Timeline for the Upgrade

Construction of the new Golf safety netting is set to begin in February 2025 and is expected to be completed by May. This short timeline means golfers won’t have to wait long to experience the benefits of this Major upgrade.

Why This Matters

This project isn’t just about safety; it’s about creating a better overall experience for everyone who visits Whaleback Golf Course. With the installation of the new safety netting, the driving range will offer:

  • Enhanced Safety: Protecting patrons and reducing ball loss.
  • Improved Efficiency: Minimising operational risks and maximising enjoyment.
  • A Better Playing Experience: Allowing golfers to focus on their game without distractions.

The Future of Whaleback Golf Course

The upgrades planned for 2025 highlight Whaleback’s commitment to innovation and excellence. As the City of Canning assumed management of the course in December 2023, this investment demonstrates its dedication to maintaining Whaleback as a leading golfing destination in Perth.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting, the improvements at Whaleback Golf Course will make your visit even more enjoyable. Mark your calendars and get ready to experience the enhanced facilities in 2025!
